Hiking is one of my favorite pastimes, and if you’re here, I’m guessing it’s yours too. There’s nothing quite like the crisp mountain air, breathtaking scenery, and (usually) blissful solitude. But before you can conquer that next peak, there’s one essential question: What’s on your feet?
Any hiker knows that proper footwear is an investment that needs to be made. Any hiker also knows that proper footwear usually costs an arm and a leg. I don’t know about you, but I don’t have any limbs to spare, which is why I’m such a big fan of the NORTIV 8 DriftShield hiking boots.

NORTIV 8 DriftShield Overview
I’ve worked through a number of NORTIV 8 boots, and so far, I haven’t been disappointed by any of them. Honestly, I’m still surprised they manage to keep their prices so low without skimping on quality!
Because let’s be real: how much did you drop on your last pair of Salomons or Lowas? $200? $350?
The NORTIV 8 DriftShield hiking boots hold up just as well as these big-name brands, and yet, you can get them for a third the price – if not less. But I know cost isn’t the only thing that matters when it comes to hiking footwear. So, let’s get into what really makes these boots stand out.
Where They Shine
I’ve got to give credit where credit is due, and there’s a lot of credit to give with the DriftShield boots. From comfort to style to price, they’ve outperformed any other boots that I’ve ever owned. So, without further ado, let’s dive into the nitty-gritties.
Comfort
I’m not exaggerating when I say that these are the most comfortable pair of boots I’ve ever owned. Many high-end hiking boots require a break-in period, but that’s never been the case with NORTIV 8. The boots are comfortable right out of the box, and I’ve literally spent hours walking around in them without fatigue or pain.
Most notably, I’m in love with how they accommodate wide feet. My whole life, it’s been a struggle to find shoes that fit well, and NORTIV 8 is one of the few brands that consistently delivers footwear that feels good for my foot size. That likely won’t be the case for folks with narrower feet, but at least for people like me, this brand is a breath of fresh air.
Waterproofing
The DriftShield’s are marketed as a waterproof boot, and so far, I’ve found no reason to doubt that claim. I’ve made a point to walk through as many puddles and streams as possible, and my feet have stayed dry every time. Even when mostly submerged, I haven’t experienced a single leak.
I’ve primarily worn these boots through a Minnesota winter, using them as my go-to for shoveling, hiking, and everyday outdoor tasks. Snow, slush, and freezing rain—none of it managed to seep through. Considering how brutal winters can be, that’s no small feat.
Traction
If you’ve ever worn shoes with terrible grip, you know how frustrating—and dangerous—it can be. I once owned a pair so slick they felt like ice skates on a wet sidewalk. I’m still amazed I made it home without breaking a bone!
Thankfully, the story is different with the DriftShield boots. As you can see from the photo, there’s a lot of traction built into these boots. I’ve walked on ice, sand, dirt, and just about everything in between, and they all broadly felt the same. Obviously, the ice was more noticeable, but even that wasn’t nearly as bad as I expected.
Durability
All things considered, I haven’t really had the opportunity to put these boots through the wringer yet. That being the case, any claims I make about overall durability are mostly speculative.
Even so, I will tell you what I do know: So far, I’ve walked roughly 50 miles while wearing these, and you’d never even guess that they’ve been used. The insole has seen a little wear (the Nortiv 8 logo is mostly gone, at this point), but little else has changed. There aren’t any scuff marks, the tread still looks brand new, and the support is the same as when I first put the boots on.
Style
Believe it or not, I actually wore these boots to an interview recently. If that’s not a testament to their style, I don’t know what is!
(And yes, I got the job.)
Needless to say, these are the most stylish pair of boots I’ve ever owned. Personally, I like the gray color, but they also come in brown, black, and olive, for those of you with different tastes.
Also, you’ll notice pretty quickly that the DriftShields will give you a height boost as well. I haven’t directly measured how much of a boost, but it feels like an inch or so. At 6 feet tall, I’m already a bigger guy, but hey, it’s hard to complain about looking even taller.
Price
I touched on this earlier, but price is one of NORTIV 8’s biggest selling points. Every pair I’ve owned has been under $100—sometimes well under.
I know that price is one of those areas where the general belief is “more expensive = better quality,” but that just isn’t the case with the DriftShields. My advice is to accept the cost reduction for what it is, without automatically assuming the product won’t be as good.
Potential Pain Points
I often say that there’s no such thing as a perfect product, and I stand by that. But, if I’m being honest, the DriftShields hiking boots really made me think long and hard about pain points – perhaps more so than any other product that I’ve reviewed.
Breathability
It’s genuinely difficult to pick out any flaws with these boots, but if I had to nitpick, I’d say it comes down to breathability. Their watertight construction is a huge win for keeping your feet dry, but it also means airflow is limited.
Now, I haven’t worn them during the summer months yet, but I can only assume that my feet are going to get hot and sweaty based on my experiences in 60 degree weather so far. They’ve been phenomenal during the winter months, though, and I’m sure it would be the same in Spring and Autumn. This is mostly just something you’ll want to keep in mind if you’re going on long hikes or walks when it’s toasty outside.
Final Verdict
At the end of the day, the NORTIV 8 DriftShield hiking boots are one of the best values I’ve come across in outdoor footwear. They offer exceptional comfort, solid waterproofing, reliable traction, and a stylish design—all at a fraction of the price of big-name brands. Whether you’re trekking through snow, crossing streams, or tackling rocky trails, these boots hold their own.
Are they perfect? No—if breathability is a top priority for you, these might run a little warm in hotter months. But if you’re looking for a rugged, all-season boot that won’t break the bank, the DriftShields are a no-brainer.
